Thursday (12-20-12) was a dark, cold, windy,?and?otherwise miserable day for photographing birds, but it may have been my last chance before Friday's scheduled Mayanmageddon.?

For the past few days,?a small flock of black scoters has been hanging out off Sunset Ave.? Although others have reported their presence in the past, it is the first time I recall seeing them fairly close to shore.

Also in the Sound?off Sunset Ave. was?a pair of Harlequin ducks.?? This is another bird?which?is common to the area?that I don't see very often.?

My observations are made with my naked eye or with the long end of my big honkin' 100-400 telephoto zoom camera len$.??I know that I miss?seeing birds located farther out in the Sound which others can?see using?their high-powered?$potting $cope$. ??
