So sorry.....it was a Red-breasted, NOT Red-naped Sapsucker at Lake Sammamish State Park. As I just wrote to Tim, having done this twice now, I must Freudianly really want to see a Red-naped in King County at LSSP!

Comments: Stan Wood and Sharon Aagaard were joined by three other birders at this monthly bird walk offered by Eastside Audubon from 8 am to noon at Lake Sammamish State Park. We were dressed in layers and mud boots for a weather forecast of 100% chance of rain, increasing winds and temps in the low 40's. We had light rain off and on, fairly light winds, with temps ranging from 38 to 42 degrees. Highlights: 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER; 1 GREATER SCAUP and a couple larger flocks of LESSER SCAUP; 3 pairs of RED-TAILED HAWKS; 1 MERLIN; 1 RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER; 6 VARIED THRUSH; and 1 lone CEDAR WAXWING feeding on berries with several American Robins. 51 species for the day. Next bird walk is Monday, January 14. No pre-registration required....just show up. A Discover Pass is required since this is a state park.
