Here is the message I just received from Courtenay birder Dave Ingram.

Just had an email that the bird is back at it's usual place as of
10:00 today [Monday Dec. 24]- a couple of birders including a fellow
from California (Matthew??) saw it this morning. If you're going to
try again, I think the weather/snow cover seems to play the biggest
role in seeing this bird - when the weather is good it seems to show
up and stick around. When the weather is bad and there's no food
people get skunked. Best to check the weather forecast and plan
accordingly!
