The only Long Eared Owls that I have seen this year were in your favorite stand of trees near Lamoine. I have been there 4 times in the past 3 months and have seen a single owl twice. My wife mentioned to her non birder freind who lives near Lamoine that I had seen the owls there. She replied that a pair raised two young in an abandoned building and that all four now hang out in those trees. I don't know how much snow is up there as I haven't been there in about a month. At that time there was about an inch. Since then Leavenworth has accumulated about a foot and a half so there could be quite a bit in Lamoine. Ken HemberryLeavenworth

Well, it's that time of year to go tromping around in horrible weather conditions, fruitlessly searching for Long-eared Owls. Anybody willing to point me to a likely spot? I'd be especially grateful for a place where the bird has been seen this season--even if it's that %$ at ! windbreak in Lamoine that I swore I'd never trudge around again...
Thanks!
