Success!! Beautiful success!! Almost shamefully easy birding - but so worth it!! I donned my hiking boots (no slipping and sliding today!) and headed over to Ballard around noon and as soon as we hit the spot - there was one (almost worried it was a decoy!) sitting on top of the house under construction (yellowish). After a bit of crow harassment, it flew to another house around the corner. A one story house. It landed on the chimney but unfortunately didn't get a photo of it there. A couple of women with binoculars/cameras also told us about the other Snowy on the house across from Sunset Hill park. A bit more obscure view than the other, but I'm sure it had a great view of us watching him/her. I got some fairly good photos - for an amateur. I'll try to post in some form soon. (not my forte') (Note: The owls were generally located at the location others have been so accurately posting and generously sharing - 71st-73rd NW / 33rd across from Sunset Hill park on top of the gray house). Owl in Owl - I saw them sitting on 4 different roof tops. Mesmerizing.

Just amazing to drive to Ballard and have a few Arctic Snowy Owls sitting around on roofs of homes!! I met the man that lives across from one perch and he said he's almost complacent to it since they've been around for nearly a month. But he's glad to have people enjoying them.

The weather was also cooperative - almost balmy. No rain. We headed to Ray's for some soup, etc. and had a great window table where we did of birding from our table. (Figuring if people are texting from their tables we could use our binoculars). Saw cormorant of course, but mergansers, goldeneyes, some type of murrelet (I think). Then went to Golden Gardens to the ponds and saw a pair of Shovelers, Buffleheads, American Wigeons.

Headed up north tomorrow to Eide and Thomle - with the help of Barb Diehl, we should find our way. Hoping to see not only more Snowies, but some Short Eared owls as well, etc. It will probably be a bit more work than today. :). If all goes as planned, I'll report what I see.
