One of the great things about Tweeters is the role
it plays as a learning resource. I had reported
the birds, almost unthinkingly, as Grey Partridge
on Ebird but the pictures had given me second
thoughts. Seemingly within minutes of my post
asking for help ID'ing some gallinaceous birds
seen at Withrow yesterday morning I had two what I
consider expert opinions (from Ryan Shaw and Kim
Thorburn) back confirming that they were Grey
Partridge. Kim, who is doing research with the
"chickens" in the area pointed out that the
Partridge often fan their tails when flushed. I
had never noted that in the past, so a good lesson
learned.

Start the Seattle CBC soon today. Good birding to
all.
