I remember, not long ago, when state law provided for protection of Bald
Eagle perch trees within nesting territories. One of the Hogum Bay Road
water reclamation pond eagles has eschewed the trees in favor of a different
kind of perch, the kind that is often favored by Red-tailed Hawks. I've seen
this bird perched on a luminaire in this location near the Target warehouse
before. It surprised me. Perhaps it's something I need to get used to as
eagles continue to show their adaptability and willingness to accept the
urbanizing landscape.
