I was surprised to read in the Audubon magazine about the diminishing
number of Evening Grosbeaks because the number at my feeder here in
central Lewis County is increasing daily with several dozen at one time
not unusual at all.

Also, visiting my suet and ground feeders regularly are a pair of
Flickers (that nest here in the summer time) and a small flock of Varied
Thrush. Since I provided an enclosed feeder full of sunflower seeds
with a perch too small for other birds to use it, the Chickadees and
Nuthatch numbers are increasing daily, too. Juncos, Towhees, Song and
Fox Sparrows, Doves, and Jays are as numerous as even also...more so,
actually, on the days that peanuts and/or bread crumbs are added to the
menu. :) There were over 60 Pine Siskins here one day, too, but this
weekend, I have not see them, so I am not certain if they moved on or
have found something more interesting in the woods.
