Subject: [Tweeters] Possible Hoary Redpoll in the Wenas today

Hi Tweeters,
In the Wenas todayI found two small flocks of redpolls, one with 10 birds
and the other with 18 near the parking area for the Umtanum Falls trail. I
saw several pale-looking birds. I played the Hoary Redpoll song on my ipod
and one bird flew in quickly and even flew over my head twice.
I processed my photos and looked on-line for redpoll ID tips. David Sibley

I placed four redpoll photos on my website. The one that I think is a
Hoary Redpoll has very pale cheeks. It is pointing right at the camera so
the rest of its body is not visible. Two of the other three birds show
much darker cheeks. The remaining bird's cheeks are partially hidden.
I am interested in ideas about the identification of the pale bird. The
