The weather was so beautiful Friday that I made a run up to BC to see the
"spectacle" at Boundary Bay. What a sight! 18 SNOWY OWLS, plus lots of
very active HARRIERS. And the crowd of people was amazing - many locals
bringing out their children to see the owls. Probably 10
"megacameras"/owl. Many seemed a bit too close, but the owls seemed
unfazed. Also in that area was the largest concentration of BALD EAGLES
I've seen - certainly over 50, with at least three trees with 8 eagles in
them.
After that I went up to the Reifel Refuge. Highlights there were 4
BLACK-CROWNED NIGHTHERONS, and four groups of SANDHILL CRANES (9 cranes
in all), all on the paths, calling back and forth, and enjoying being fed
by the many visitors. I had almost forgotten just how big they are, and
how impressive that bill is.
A great way to spend a sunny Friday!
