Subject: [Tweeters] Possible Sedge Wren Among Damon Point Snowy Owls

I was checking out the snowy owls at Damon Pt. today when another watcher
accidentally flushed a small, weak-flying bird from the grasses. Having
birded for several years on the prairies of the midwest my first reaction
was sedge wren -- it may have been one, albeit in fairly dry habitat. I
wasn't about to start pishing and scaring up owls and tourists, so I only
saw it once and it never appeared or flushed again. Here's what I noted in
a couple of eyeblinks:

-weak, slow flight low to ground, never above tallest grasses, flight was
about 15' in distance.
-the appearance of a short tail and long bill.
-the "tail heavy" flight characteristic of wrens
-*Very* small size.
-I didn't catch any rufous rump or can note any light underside but that's
not to say it wasn't there...all I can say is that I saw a brownish bird.

Please keep it in mind if you're out visiting the owls.
