Since someone asked, I'll answer - yes, there are still several (the highest report I heard was 12) Snowy Owls out on Damon Point. I finally got a chance to go on Feb 4-5, along with hundreds of other people. Coming from a sparsely populated county, I actually found it refreshing to find so many people interested in birds. The crowds I saw were respectful, and I took some photos at a distance.
Though it took me some time to find her, the female King Eider was still among the scoters off the outer shore of Damon Point Sunday morning, and I was able to get a very good look. The Emperor Goose was also obliging, sitting on the golf course at the corner of J.K. Lewis St. and Point Brown Avenue at about 10:00 am. The North Jetty offered close looks at a mixed flock of Rock Sandpipers, Surfbirds and Black Turnstones. Given the beautiful weather and unusual birds, it was a fine weekend.
