Need some help with a fly-by bird ID. Driving up to Boundary Bay last Saturday a medium sized bird flew west just in front of my car while driving I-5 between Ferndale and Blaine (around 10:25am). Bird had a similar shape and size of a med-largish woodpecker, with an all black body except for an unmistakable white head and white patches under the wings. Both my passenger and I have seen White-headed Woodpecker on the eastern slopes but instantly started doubting ourselves as this is totally out of range for them. Is it even possible they could stray this far west or does anyone have any ideas who else this fly-by could have been??
