I dropped by the Edmonds Marsh to check it out for the first time
yesterday. At first I thought there were a bunch of pilings at the
center of the Marsh, but scanning the marsh with my binoculars I
realized it was actually many sleeping Great Blue Herons. After
looking at the photos I took I counted 12 birds. I have seen similar
numbers roosting on the marina roof before, but it's always and
interesting site. Other birds of note were an Anna's Hummingbird I
only saw once but could hear quite frequently, a couple Ruby Crowned
Kinglets and many Fox Sparrows. At the marina itself I saw a pair of
Belted Kingfishers, a Horned Grebe, and several Common Goldeneyes.
Today I was driving near Kenmore and I decided to check out the
nesting site that has been mentioned here. From the parking ride lot I
counted 28 in the trees and on nests, bringing the two day total up to
an amazing 40 GBH's in only these two locations.
