Just got back from a visit to the Fill this a.m.
Our fabulous weather is gone and I got quite wet
in the drizzle, but still fun at the Fill. I saw
the Tufted Duck early off East Point (not real
close in) and then could not find him later. The
Barrow's Goldeneye was leisurely feeding/swimming
in the slough to the west of the UBNA. Today he
was perhaps 50 yards south of the wooden bridge.
A pair of mallards and a pair of bufflehead swam
by occasionally, but he was on his own. Seemed to
be a little wary when I was in direct line of
sight but otherwise a very tame bird. Other
sightings were two Redheads, Canvasbacks, common
and hooded mergansers, ring necked duck,
shovelers, green winged teal, scaup, wigeon,
gadwalls, Canadian geese, coots and dc
mergansers. No raptors seen. Wrens were
chattering everywhere, competing with singing song
sparrows and red winged blackbirds. A couple of
ruby crowns and a single yellow rumped warbler.
Two flickers including one that was drilling for
quite a while on a lamp (atop a post) just south
of the shed at CUH. Does anyone know why they
drill on the metal itself? Also at least three
Anna's hummingbirds. And did I mention that it
was raining...
