Just moved to Port Orchard from Mobile,AL. Decided to go to Ocean Shores yesterday to add a few birds to my life list. My shortcomings on both western bird ID and WA birding hotspots were both evident throughout the day. I did not find the EMPEROR GOOSE after searching the golf course twice. ROCK SANDPIPERS were an easy find once I figured out where the North Jetty was and that David Sibley's illustrations didn't exactly fit the smaller Surfbird-like sandpipers that were accompanying the flock of SURFBIRDS and BLACK TURNSTONES. The"queen" EIDER did not make her royal appearance but five SNOWY OWLS were very accommodating after an invigorating walk at Damon Point.

Looking forward to meeting many of you while birding and learning about the birds of this beautiful area.
