My wife, friends, and I were delighted to have someone point out the Tufted
Duck at the Union Bay Natural Area (Montlake Fill) around 8:20 AM this
morning. The male Tufted Duck diving regularly and often paired with a
female (lesser?) Scaup. It was located near a yellow buoy by the Montlake
Fill Channel and unfortunately flushed several times by crew rowing boats.
We had distant but satisfactory view through various scopes where the most
distinct features were the black back and lack of Ring-neck Duck features.
Most of the 8 to 10 people present saw an intermittent display of a small
tuft. Sorry did not get names of most of the birders present.
