Tweets,
Thanks to those who raised awareness of this issue (I think it was our stalwart Connie) and made suggestions about how to express our tweeterly concerns.
As a marketing and communications professional, I have some additional suggestions about how to convey our concerns to those involved *and* how to strategically target community influencers who can also help raise awareness and ask the UW for further explanation of the reasons for the artificial grass installation.
Perhaps I have missed it, but I've not yet read any explanation for *why* this is happening; asking for the rationale is the number one question to ask as it will allow us to respond with relevant data, arguments, etc. Presumably, it will ultimately save time and money resources, which are reasonable goals. That said, we need to stress that losing habitat for wildlife is an incalculable loss. (If the reasons are available, please let me know where I can read them.)
For those of us who have photos taken in the exact area where the turf is to be placed, attach these files or a link to them. Beautiful bird pictures, especially dozens or scores of them, will help illustrate what would be negatively impacted by the artificial grass. As an example, I will be sending this:

I suggest sending letters to the editors of the UW Daily at:
http://dailyuw.com/contact/
In the letter, stress:
1. that the community as yet to hear *why* this is happening (if that is correct)2. what the potential pressures/negative impact would be on wildlife
Other venues to contact: Laurelhurst blog, Seattle Times, any other news org that you think would be interested in pursuing this.
Thanks and the best of luck to us and the birds.
