The Olympic BirdFest is coming up Friday, March 30 thru Sunday, April
1, with lots of birding trips, owl prowls, dawn choruses, raptor
presentation by the NW Raptor Center, boat trip around Protection
Is., a banquet at the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe's spectacular
headquarters, a local wine tasting, and more. It's always a great
time, with birding trips throughout the north Olympic Peninsula
centered in Sequim and Dungeness, one of the great birding areas of
the Pac NW.

A real good thing about this festival is it is a fundraiser to
support the Dungeness River Audubon Center in Sequim, a great cause.
It is a homespun local festival largely led by knowledgeable
volunteers from the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society.

The last event of the BirdFest is a three-day birding, wildlife, and
exploration cruise around the San Juan Islands, leaving Sequim Bay on
Sunday, Apr 1, and returning late Tues, Apr 3. The boat is the
Glacier Spirit, a very comfortable boat used for whale-watching trips
most of the year from Port Townsend. We stay two nights at Roche
Harbor Resort at the north end of San Juan Is., visit the national
historic parks on San Juan Island, land for lunch at Sucia Island
Marine State Park, and the last day return through the islands,
Swinomish Channel, and Deception Pass on the way home, looking for
feeding flocks and marine mammals as we go.
