Location: This bird was observed flying above downtown Juneau.

History: This bird was observed by Dave Douglas for approximately 10-15
seconds as it flew 200 feet above downtown Juneau heading north along
Gastineau Channel. Unfortunately a photo did not substantiate this
sighting, but the observer has lived in Juneau for many years and is very
familiar with the abundant Bald Eagles that should be expected. The
distinct white leading edges of the wings stood out the most, and that
combined with the large white tail and the overall appearance led the
observer to conclude that the bird was unmistakably a Steller's Sea-Eagle.
Attempts by local birders to re-sight the bird have been unsuccessful so
far. Steller's Sea-Eagle is listed as Casual on the Checklist of Alaska
Birds by Daniel D. Gibson, Robert E. Gill, Steve C. Heinl, Theodore G.
Tobish, Aaron J. Lang, and Jack. J. Withrow. It is available online at:
