Subject: [Tweeters] Tsawwassen ARCTIC LOON

Greetings Tweeters,
I recently returned from leading a week-long tour in your next o' the
woods. We had a great week of birding, especially the first 5 days, when it
was sunny and in the 50s all day! The SNOWY OWL phenomenon was our primary
goal, and we were not disappointed, with up to 27 birds seen at Boundary
Bay. We missed a few species, but we had many highlights and we did have
one rarity:

On Thursday, 2/9, as our boat was leaving the ferry dock at Tsawwassen, we
got excellent looks at an ARCTIC LOON just outside the jetty. The bird
could only have been viewed from the boat, but I imagine it could make its
way into the bay full of loons south of the ferry "peninsula". We did not
have a chance to stop and check for YB Loon in there, but there were dozens
of loons in that bay. We did see a few BLACK SCOTERS from the ferry
terminal, among the more common waterbirds.

I will post a few of our other highlights in a separate message.
