There are records of Merlins following trains and hunting birds flushed by
the engine and cars.

Many species of hawks routinely follow tractors and mowers looking for
flushed voles and other prey.

I have no problem with the idea that Merlins will exploit anything as long
as it flushes prey for them.

That is the basis of falconry after all, a partnership between one or more
large mammalian primates and a bird.

Quite the little opportunists.
