A chilly, overcast morning with a bit of a breeze but the birds were
pretty active anyway. No owls this morning but several Wilson's Snipe
calling from the meadows then later a flock of 5 more at the north end
of the park made a long flight away from then back toward NOAA.

The large flock of both scaups was joined by several Canvasback, and
over 30 Common Goldeneye. No gulls were on the swim platform to observe
because an adult Bald Eagle kept everyone moving around with several
passes north and south bound. At one point, it chased a Canada Goose for
several hundred meters before giving up.

Four grebes today: Western, Horned, Pied-billed and a Red-necked. There
were more Red-breasted than Common Mergansers visible. A Eurasian Wigeon
continues and several female Ringed-necked Ducks were in the ponds.

At one point, in the trees at the lake shore, there were Black-capped
Chickadees, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Pine Siskins and a Downy Woodpecker.
They were all gleaning at only a couple of feet above the ground and
each would drop to the ground to continue feeding on something there. I
watched the action for several minutes, but, though curious at what they
might be finding, decided not to disturb the feeding.

At least 9 or 10 Anna's Hummingbirds, and 2 of them were building nests.
Both of these nests were in the same location, or within inches, of
nests that were built last year, then abandoned.

For the day, 51 species; the year's tally is now at 77.
