Les Carlson, George Mayfield, Bob Rowe and I made the trip to Ocean Shores to search for the McKay's Bunting and struck out on that bird. When we pulled into the Ocean Shores Library parking lot we found Bill Shelmerdine viewing the EMPEROR GOOSE, and he filled us in on his futile bunting hunting. We joined the people on Damon Point where I estimated there were nine SNOWY OWLS, most of them easy to spot by the surrounding photographers. We had no luck in locating the bunting and had a moment of concern when we found a pile of mostly white feathers which we finally decided were of a bird larger than a bunting. Like Bill, we also had views of the KING EIDER at the base of the point. With the incoming tide we had brief views of a ROCK SANDPIPER among the BLACK TURNSTONES and SURFBIRDS on the Point Brown Jetty. Wilson Cady
