Just returned from trip to Ocean Shores with Hans
Feddern and Al Clark. They may report as well.
Sadly - NO MCKAY'S BUNTING - despite many hours of
looking by us and many other birders there. But
it was a beautiful day. We had 7 Snowy Owls and 5
Horned Larks at Damon Point. We did not see the
"Queen Eider" nor the Emperor Goose but did not
work very hard to see them as we had seen them on
other trips this year and last. Had all three
"rockpipers" at the Jetty with good looks into the
sun of all - not too far out but hampered by
incoming tide and the bright sun. All told we had
50+ species for the day but very surprisingly not
a single Northern Harrier or Bald Eagle (including
trip down from Federal Way). Another good bird
was a Wilson's Snipe in the Scotch Broom (I
believe) near the small marina to the East of
Damon Point entrance.

We drove briefly on the beach just as you enter
Ocean Shores and saw easily 75+ Sanderlings in a
small area. There was not a single Sanderling on
the beach walking out to the tip of Damon Point.
Is this because of the rockiness (small rocks) of
the latter compared to the sand only nature of the
former?
