Hello, Tweeters,

FYI - the two Emperor Geese are still present in Dungeness Bay this morning (2/19/12), hanging out on "Cline Island," a small island in the middle of the inner part of Dungeness Bay just north of Cline Spit, which sticks into the bay from the south. They're very easy to see from either Dungeness Landing Park or Marine Drive.

This morning the geese were roosting with a large flock of BB Plovers, Dunlins, and gulls when a Peregrine Falcon came swooping over the whole bunch, startling everybody into the air, including the geese. The Emperors flopped into the water about 20 feet offshore, then quickly waddled back onshore while the Peregrine continued chasing (unsuccessfully) the Dunlin.

These geese have been here since at least 12/31/11, first seen by Sue Chickman and Bob Lynette, who watched them fly in over Dungeness Spit.
