Subject: [Tweeters] Death of a Varied Thrush

High drama on main street! I no sooner had left my house on my morning
walk, when a small, likely male, *Sharp-shinned Hawk* zoomed low across the
street in front of me. It landed under a pine in a neighbor's yard. Before
I could wonder what it was after, a light colored, apparently female *Varied
Thrush*, burst out from under the tree in sheer panic. The Sharpie was in
hot pursuit. The thrush frantically zig-zagged in a vain attempt to loose
its deadly pursuer. The hawk managed to knock it down on the sidewalk about
25 yards in front of me with feathers flying. Having a weak spot for any
underdog, I yelled, hoping it would confuse the hawk and give the thrush a
chance to escape. The Sharpie only stopped for a second, before grabbing
the doomed thrush in its talons. When last seen, it was flying off with its
lunch low in between houses, heading for the Twin Lakes Golf Course.
Well, I know not to interfere with nature's way, but I could not help it!

Good Birding!
