This morning in light rain to heavy snow at the Kent ponds (Kent Natural
Resources Area), from around 8:45 to 10 a. m., three AMERICAN TREE
SPARROWs fed on the main trail and in shrubs west of the trail near
where the northwest observation tower trail meets it. This is a short
walk from the first parking lot on the east side of Russell south of
212th St. (The parking lot was gated closed, but a roadside area was
available. Similarly, Russell was signed closed, but isn't, though one
lane is, much of the way in that section.) Mostly the birds fed alone,
though sometimes a few WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWs joined them. Seven
SWALLOWs, mostly BARN, one probably Tree, flew over the pond to the
east. A couple of brown CINNAMON TEAL were in the slough near the foot
bridge in the southeast corner of the area (off 64th Ave.).
