Hi again Tweeters --

When I lucked into the Cathlamet kittiwake today (which I forgot to
mention was at 12:50 p.m.), Susan and I were on our way home from a
weekend in Long Beach with Dennis Paulson, Netta Smith, Pat Otto, and
Bud Bigelow. The conditions were so stormy there as to hinder our
rather limited birding efforts, but we did locate the continuing
YELLOW-BILLED LOON at Ilwaco Marina, and Dennis got decent photos. If
you chase this bird, be patient; there are enough docks and boats
obstructing your view from any given perspective that the loon can
disappear for long periods of time with surprising ease!

15-20 Canvasbacks were among the waterfowl outside the harbor, while
several Least Sandpipers were within it. A CLARK'S GREBE was with a
Western, a Pied-billed, and a RT Loon on Black Lake north of town.
The surf-pounded beach at Long Beach had a couple of BRANT and 1000+
Sanderlings amid the 30-mph winds.
