Judy:
? I've found?Northern Shovelers?at the mouth of the Hamma Hamma and Skokomish rivers. There is a wide pull off on south bound Hwy. 101 between Lon Webb Rd. and the north bridge over the Hamma Hamma. The best place to view The Skokomish estuary is along Hwy. 106 SW of Union. I start at the old Oyster House. This is a good spot for various diving ducks including redheads and canvasbacks, but you need a scope because most of them are way out in Hood Canal. In fact sometimes you can see them better from Potlatch State Park.?Further So. on 106 there are other pull offs that over look the mud flats where there are dabbling ducks.

A friend got me started on county bird listing and I've been doing a bit here and there when I can. I understand American coot is a challenge there so I thought I'd report my success at finding some (after numerous attempts) along Shelton-Matlock road at Nahwatzel Lake?located just east of Matlock. They were visible from the road when we pulled off on the shoulder.

And for that tip, I'd appreciate someone's help at finding Northern shovelerts in Mason county. They're supposed to be a "1", but after many tries at every small lake I could find and several trips to Thieler wetlands I'm starting to wonder. So any help or pointers will be appreciated.
