Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 1. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A probable TROPICAL KINGBIRD was reported February 23 in Newport.

BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES were pushed to shore during the week with 50 off
Yachats February 24 and one inland at Norway in Coos County the next day.
There were several large flocks of TREE SWALLOWS reported as the spring
movement is arriving. WHITE-FRONTED GEESE are also arriving.

The large flock of SNOW GEESE are still on Sauvie Island with one adult and
one immature BLUE GOOSE among them. The Sauvie Island HARRIS?S SPARROW is
still along Rentenaar Road. REDPOLLS were reported during the week in
southwest and northwest Portland, and in north Gladstone. On February 26 a
SWAINSON?S HAWK was reported in Troutdale. On February 24 a flock of ten
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove. A
NORTHERN SHRIKE and seven SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen February 24 along
Farmer Road east of Baskett Slough NWR. Another NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen the
next day at Finley NWR. The first RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year was at
Merlin in the Rogue Valley February 24.

On February 23 a flock of over 200 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were at Houston
Lake west of Prineville. It was probably the local wintering flock.
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and REDPOLLS are still being reported along Tumalo
Creek west of Bend. LAPLAND LONGSPURS, SNOW BUNTINGS, and BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS
are still being seen in Wallowa County. On February 26, 17 GRAY PARTRIDGE
were at the farmstead along Schoolhouse Road near Enterprise.
