Today in the NE Bellevue suburbs (some large pines/cedars in the yards) we saw a single northern flicker on a pine tree. At the bird feeder we saw a golden-crowned sparrow, many juncos, a house finch, and another UNID sparrow. In the last week we have seen a spotted towhee and a varied thrush feeding on the ground under the feeder (not at the same time). Can anyone tell me why I only see the male thrushes here? I don't see them often around my house and I have never seen a female. Because they are so muted in color that I just don't notice them the way I do the males?
