Subject: [Tweeters] FRG Hawk-watching Classes

Hi All,

I'll be presenting our annual hawk-watching classes in Seattle, Mt. Vernon
and Bellingham this time around.

Hard to believe but this will be our 30th year for these classes. Wow,
going by faster and faster...and makes me stand in awe of Dennis
Paulson teaching bird classes for far longer than that.

For those of you that haven't taken this course, we cover field ID,
distribution and behavior of our 16 species of native raptors here in
western Washington (18 if we are now counting Red-shouldered and
Broad-winged Hawks too). Keep in mind that they were not even here when I
first began these classes so long ago. In fact, there were no White-tailed
Kites either (other than Tweit's first sighting in 1975 at Nisqually). So
much has changed over the years.

We usually do one hour of lecture and one hour of...yes...slides (still).

We also head out for a full day field trip to the Skagit Flats by Mt.
Vernon to ID wild hawks, eagles and falcons in the field. I usually do
several field trips so you'll get a choice on dates.

Classes start next week in Bellingham at Whatcom Middle School (Monday
nights, 9Jan), Padilla Bay Center near Mt. Vernon (Tuesday nights, 10 Jan)
and Seattle at Discovery Park (Wednesday nights 11 Jan), 7-9 PM. There
will be five class sessions, one per week.

Cost is $150 per person. Class fees go towards supporting our peregrine
satellite tracking efforts in Chile this year.

To register, please send a check to the address below. For questions, call
or e-mail me directly.

Happy New Year everyone.
