proving once again i have no hope of ever advancing beyond next to lowest
degree white belt birder, i had not ever thought about first bird of the
year. thus it was nothing other than dumb luck that led us out on a new
year's morning to the upper skagit to see what the eagles were doing.
spike and i stopped on the sauk river to see what was up, and my first bird
of the year was american dipper.

even a blind squirrel finds the occasional nut.
