Tweeters, John Gatchet and I had a good day at the coast today, despite the weather. Other than some early morning sprinkles, we were not rained or snowed upon and even enjoyed some sunshine. The wind however, was a fierce force all day. A quick stop in Hoquiam at the sewage ponds produced a single Barn Swallow. We managed the Emperor Goose after an hour of fruitless searching when it finally flew in near the golf course club house in Ocean Shores. We had to walk about 1.5 miles out on Damon Pt. to get a distant scope view of only 1 of the many Snowy Owls there and didn't bother for the others due to the weather. The King Eider was also present there off the beach as usual. Along the Eastern end of Burrow's Rd. was a Hermit Thrush. Tokeland provided one of the better birds of the day, a Clark's Grebe. Seen well and from close range it's lighter overall coloration and notable orange bill were defining as it associated with a few other Western's. Michael WillisonStanwood
