I have a sunflower feeder only hanging out under my Redwood tree and have about 25-30 Juncos that feed plus 10 Chickadees of both species and some House Finches. Yesterday I looked out and the dirt was flying like some dog was out there. Well surprise ,surprise here was a Varied Thrush justa pitchin. Hope he got lots of worms or whatever he was looking for. My sister lives less then a mile away and she has 11 Varied Thrushes in her yard which a small creek runs thru. She found some bird seed at a local farm store that is a wonderful mixture of sunflower, millet, milo & mixed nuts that satisfies the squirrels, finches and whoever. Odd as mixed nuts very expensive for human consumption. Nice clean seed and no little twigs etc. She also has 4 hummingbirds that come every morning at 5:30 and last feed of the day about 4PM. Thanks to someone on here that suggested using hand warmers on the feeder plus bubblewrap. Works wonders. This morning she had two hummers come to feeder wanting a drink but not knowing how to use the feeder so she hurriedly put out a "bare" feeder and they used it. Hope they wise up to the wrapped feeder so that's 6 hummers she's cooking for. Appear 2b Annas. Hope they all survive. Had two Hermit Thrushes yesterday chowing down. TT4N
