Hi tweeters, my dad, friend Casey and I spent two days in Chelan and
the Waterville plateau. We started Saturday looking for the N. hawk
owl in the morning but could not find it although we had 2 red
crossbills, about 30 common Redpoles and 2 N. pygmy owls. We headed
to Walla Walla point park for the loon and with some help for another
birder was able to get great looks of it feeding across the river
there was also 3 Eurasian wigeons with a big flock of Americans.
After that we headed back for the hawk owl and this time found it on
the left side of the road about mile 6.4. The next day we headed to
Wells wildlife area on Bridgeport hill rd and found a long eared owl
and American tree sparrow. We could not find any Bohemian waxwings
at the bar or state park but found a Merlin in the town of
Bridgeport. We headed up to the Waterville plateau but could not find
a Gyrfalcon but managed a Prairie falcon past leahy junction going
north. We could not find the Lesser Black Backed Gull at Grand Coulee
dam but there was some Thayers and Herring gulls. Heading back on
the plateau we finally found a Gyrfalcon East of Mansfield along with
two roosting Great Horned Owls. At Leavenworth we had both kinglets
and a female White Headed Woodpecker. It was a fantastic trip and
great weather.
