Tweeters,
This winter three intergrade Flickers are visiting the suet feeders in my yard. One is a Yellow-shafted female with a brown face and throat, but she lacks a red crescent on the nape. The second is a Yellow-shafted male with a red crescent on the nape, a gray face, and malars that appear black in normal light conditions. There appears to be a bit of dark red in the malars when sunlit. The third is Red-shafted with blackish malars, gray face and a small red dot on each side of the nape.
I think they are the offspring of a Yellow-shafted male with red malars and red nape crescent who visited my yard every autumn and winter for several years.
