Since I was at Seward Park to meet for the Gull Identification Class by Mike
Donahue (which is excellent by the way) I did some quick birding in the
area. I found the Greater White-fronted Goose along with 1 Cackling Goose
mixed in with some Canada Geese.



The Cackling was right there side by side with the Canada Geese. The size
difference was quite striking. Here are links to two pictures I took that
show both body size and bill size comparisons.

The first one image surprised me how much smaller the Cackling was. Is this
a normal sized Cackling?

The second image shows a nice variance in relative bill size compared to the
head.

I saw two White-throated Sparrows at Seward today behind the visitor center
by their two feeders. I got a picture of one. It was very dark so the image
did not come out as sharp as I like but you can see the coloration well.
This was a White-striped. I didn't get a close enough look on the other to
confirm the color of its stripes.



This was a nice little birdie spot. Right behind the visitor center on a
deck there are 2 feeders. It was bustling with activity. Standing in one
spot for about a minute I saw

Chestnut-backed Chickadee

Black-capped Chickadee

Red-Breasted Nuthatch

Song Sparrow

Fox Sparrow

Dark-eyed Junco

White-throated sparrow

Spotted Towhee



I'll have to go back since I only had a few minutes to spend.

Re-found this morning about 10:30am behind office bldg. at Seward Park, 1
tan-striped white-throated sparrow. It was looking very good. There are
bird feeders in this area and a nice path that leads to it from its North
side.
