Hello all,
As I noted in my Marymoor and Juanita report, I have been working
overnight which has allowed me a chance to explore some places in the
daylight. I took advantage of the sunny weather yesterday to explore
Spencer Island, east of Everett. I do not have a spotting scope so I
made no attempt to identify the ducks out in the treatment ponds. The
ones near the fence appeared to be LESSER SCAUPs with a few AMERICAN
COOTs mixed in. Duck numbers were much lower than I've seen recently,
presumably due to the good weather. I met another gentlemen with a
camera who comes there much more frequently than I who confirmed the
numbers being low. Only a couple of MALLARDS and AMERICAN WIGEONS were
seen once I got past the bridge and onto the island. I observed many
birds moving in and out of the low bushes during my walk. Notably both
BEWICKS WRENS and at least one MARSH WREN as well as several RUBY
CROWNED KINGLETS. The Kinglets were notably friendly with one flying
within 3 feet of me at one point. Raptor activity was what I was
focused on and it didn't disappoint. One NORTHERN HARRIER passed me
several times. At least 4 RED-TAILED HAWKS and 4 BALD EAGLES were also
seen, mostly perched in snags. I also briefly saw a SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK.
