Also check the bird reports for Louisiana by going to: birdingonthe.net and clicking on "Regional/Specialty" under "Mailing Lists" and scrolling down to the state lists. You will be there during the peak of the spring migration so expect to see a lot of passerines too. Wilson Cady

Nowadays, I always start research like this by looking for birding trails. Most states have at least one now and several have more. We made good use of the four that Florida offers last fall while visiting. Florida's are free for the asking.

Many are also online as are Louisiana's. Here is the website: http://louisianatravel.com/louisiana-birding-trails. It includes a map, directions and specific species that you might see at each stop.

Don't limit your search to the Orleans loop as other loops will fit your distance limit.

I envy you going to the Jazz Festival and would recommend coming down to Portland over the 4thof July if you also like blues. The Portland Waterfront Blues Festival is one of the best in the country.
