Hi Tweets,

Stan and I were joined by 4 other birders on our monthly walk for Eastside Audubon at Lake Sammamish State Park on Jan 25, 2012, 8 am to 10 am, temps in the low 40's, with winds at 8 mph & steadily increasing. Never have I become so wet in such a short time! It was a very rainy, windy morning at the Park, with lots of wind/ice damage to the trees from the recent winter storm. Branches and trees were down everywhere, and, sadly, several of the older, larger trees are lost. Despite the wet conditions, which made it mostly not possible to see through our binocs and scopes, we did see some nice birds, with the following worth noting: 1 Spotted Sandpiper; 1 Red-breasted Sapsucker; 1 Downy Woodpecker; 1 Hairy Woodpecker; 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch--not seen/heard by me at this Park all that often; 300 American Robins feeding on the various grassy areas; & 6 Varied Thrush. Missed seeing finches, wrens and a Great Blue Heron--but, then, we did cut our walk short by 2 hours, ending at 10 am instead of noon! (I know, I know, Michael and Matt, what a bunch of wooses we were.) 40 species for the day.
