Eric: I think the easiest will be BH Nuthatch and Worm-eating Warbler near New Orleans. I would try Fontainebleau State Park (north side of Lake Pontchartrain) for these. This park givesa good representation of pine forest birding, and if memory serves there's a Red-cockaded Woodpecker stake-out somewhere in this area also. The park should be a good spot for passerine migration in late April. I was lucky enough to find a winter Bachman's Sparrow here once; in late April, there are several spots in that area that will have territorial singing birds in open, regenerating young pine groves on the edge of mature stands. I think both rails will be very hard near New Orleans, even though late April would be a greattime for them. The closest and best-access spots are probably south of Houma and Gallianonear Port Fouchon, though many of the marshes are being lost there to rising sea levels. Think the upper Texas coast (Anahuac NWR for example) offers much better shot, but still definitely noteasy. Scott AtkinsonLake Stevensmail to: scottratkinson at hotmail.com
