Today at Spenser Island with a group of students there was a major scrum
between 4 eagles. One was observed carrying something (a fish I think) and
it ran into heavy flak from 3 other Eagles with much commentary, swooping
and evasion right over our heads. They were chasing each other around for
the whole time it took to walk along the east side of the trail, at least 5
minutes of activity. An impressive show of aerial skill, with one of the
students calling out a play a play...An now its two on one, lookout!, it's a
dive from above, the champion swerves away almost hitting a
challenger....etc. As best we could determine, the fish changed carriers at
least twice. Very good show for the first day of student birding.
