I just got my copy of Donald J. Borror's "Dictionary of Word Roots and
Combining Forms". This book is a compilation of Greek and Latin word roots
with special reference to scientific names. I will be spending hours looking
up the derivations of bird names. For example, did you know that "cathart",
as in the genus name for Turkey Vulture, means "cleansing"? Very cool!
