Hi all,

When the Westport Trip was cancelled yesterday, a few of us from up north had already made it to Olympia, and decided to carry on to Ocean Shores anyway.

We located the Emperor Goose south of the driving range and enjoyed great looks for an extended time. We then made our way to Damon Point, where we found the female King Eider among other birds. Seeing the zoo out on the point, we didn't try for Snowy Owl and headed over to Bown's Pt Jetty. We found a number of Rock Sandpipers, a bird we see all too rarely at home, plus Surfbirds and Black Turnstones.

On a partially bird-related note, we were impressed to see the Parks staff walking along Damon Point and keeping an eye on things (we assumed to watch for owl harrassment, etc). Also, we found 2 beached Western Grebes at Browns Pt, and let the Parks staff know. They made a call, and two more staff came right out to rescue the grebes, and take them somewhere to be cared for.

A big thumbs up and thank you to the Parks Staff at Ocean Shores!
