Watching the Yellow-billed Loons around Port Townsend the last few years, we noticed that it (or they?) always kicked up water with their feet when diving. The other three loon species did not seem to exhibit this behavior. Does anyone know if this is typical YBL behavior, or just specific to one of loons we watched? There were three YBL's seen last year here but not together and we were never quite sure whether this behavior could be used to differentiate it from the other species. Thoughts and observations?
