Tweets,

Today 10 of us walked Nisqually in advance of the holiday tomorrow and had
a pretty good day. It started out clear and cool and stayed that way until
we got out on the dike, when the wind picked up considerable and rain
threatened. We had a -3.8 low tide at 11:50 so all we saw was mud out at the
new boardwalk. Long story short no one walked the boardwalk today.

Other regulars will walk tomorrow as normal.

Highlights included a flight of 7 WHITE PELICANS heading south down
McAllister Creek and sightings of a PEREGRINE FALCON and COOPER'S HAWK carrying
prey.

The SWAINSON'S THRUSH nest along side the riparian overlook trail is gone,
apparently preditorized over the weekend but the RUPOUS HUMMINGBIRD nest at
the start of the boardwalk to the twin barns had mama brooding eggs today.

Early sightings (before I got there) included PIED-BILL GREEBE, HAIRY
WOODPECKER, and YELLOW WARBLER feeding a COWBIRD chick.

An another highlight was 2 BLACK-TAILED DEER fawns curled up next to the
big log near the Nisqually overlook, waiting while mom foraged.

For the day we had 42 species giving me 124 for the year. In addition to
the BLACK-TAILE DEER, we saw EASTERN GRAY SQUIRRELS and a MUSKRAT in front of
the Nisqually River overlook.

Until next Wednesday when we return to normal....
