Hi
Rather cool and quiet at Neah Bay. I did manage to see BLACK SWIFT flying
low over the Wa'atch River (beautiful bird) and there was an alt aspect
RED-THROATED LOON in the harbor near the Village Creek (where the gulls
hang out). Also a male AMERICAN KESTREL, which I think is a bit unusual in
July.
On Hobuck beach were two dead SOOTY SHEARWATERS and one dead CASSIN'S
AUKLET.
Birding the short willow trees took me back to birding as a youth in Kent,
England at this time of year, but for House Martins read Violet-green
Swallows; for Willow Warblers and Chiffchaffs read Orange-crowned and
Wilson's Warblers; and for Redstarts read Pacific-slope Flycatchers. But
the parallels were striking.
Cheers
Nigel
