The number of chukars that get released from dog training is substantial.
While most are retrieved on the day, many escape. Also, some people raise
them in more urban settings, and sometimes they escape. Chukar are able to
travel quickly by running as well as flight.
Chukar simply do not survive in our rainy climate, especially over the
winter.
I have known some people who keep them as "pets". Escapes happen here too.

I hear of them in most unusual places more and more.
